Field Day/Pony Express Invitation

June 8, 2024

Dear Community;

As President of the Sweetwater Amateur Radio Club, I am delighted to extend an invitation to meet with our community of amateur radio operators as we participate in the national Field Day event and the Pony Express Re-Ride. During this year’s Pony Express Re-Ride, our club will be providing essential support to the NPEA across Sweetwater County, ensuring the safety and coordination of the riders.

As amateur radio operators, we offer a vital public service to our community, particularly during times of crisis. Our club’s licensed operators are trained in the art and science of radio communication and basic electronics theory, and we maintain our own equipment. Notably, we do not receive payment for our services, as per federal law. Our national organization, ARRL, has established relationships with numerous served agencies, including FEMA, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army.

This public service is not limited to emergency situations. We also extend our capabilities to non-emergency civic events, such as parades, marathons, and street festivals. Field Day is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our skills and offer our services to our community free of charge.

Given that both events are taking place simultaneously, and with the Pony Express Re-Ride involving horseback riding, exact timing may vary. Please find attached a copy of our tentative schedule for your convenience.

We would be honored to have you join us at one or both events and demonstrate our capabilities firsthand.

Regards,

Zach Gunyan, KE7WYG
President
